About six months ago my husband and I were having our (almost) yearly ponderings about whether or not we should sell up and buy a larger property. Around and around we went with the pros and cons and ended up where we usually do… ‘we’ll do it after we retire’.
But then I realised that that WILL NOT DO! I had joined my husband on the property about 4 years earlier and we had been hard at work planting out thousands of trees and shrubs. The food forest was coming into its third year and was really taking off. The soil in the veggie beds was starting to reap the benefits of all the organic improvements I had been working on. The garden was looking fantastic and growing great guns. The thought of leaving hurt my heart.
But the thought of tending and growing my garden for another 10 or so years and then leaving it to start again hurt even more….. if we were going to move it had to be now!!
Fast forward a few months and we had found our forever home and are in the process of moving, renovating and preparing our old home for sale.
It’s been a busy few months and I reckon we’ll be flat out for the foreseeable future but I’m super excited about what the future holds.
For now its time to observe, get to know the new environment and start working on a new permaculture design for Wonky Acres II. Whilst I am sad to leave the old garden behind, I learnt so much and know (hope) I can do better this time. And, fingers crossed the new owner loves it just as much as we did and continues work on revegetating and improving the property.
